Welcome to r/Chrome - an independent, community-run forum for everything to do with the Chrome browser!
After deleting several unused search engines from Settings > Manage search engines, I've accidentally deleted Google Web Search as my default provider. I've attempted to add it again, under the URL 'www.google.co.uk' and, as I feared, it hasn't worked.
To change your default search engine in Chrome: Open Google Chrome and select the three vertical dots next to your profile icon and select Settings. Select Search engine from the menu along the left side. Choose a different option in the dropdown next to Search engine used in the address bar.
Settings > Manage Search Engines in Google Chrome and you can add Google Search Engine again. Here's how: In the bottom you will find Other Search Engines and below that text boxes for adding a new search engine. Give Name - Google Keyword - google.com
You need to put "%s" into the search url instead of what word you are searching for it to work. So you just search for 1234, delete unnessecary parameters and switch "1234" for "%s". You can add your own shortcuts this way, so in example I just type "y cats" in address bar and it will open a youtube search for cats.
If those find nothing, reset Chrome to default (click the three dots and about 2/3 down see Reset Settings) - that will bring Chrome back to it's original installed configuration. Bring up Control Panel and look at installed programs.
I used to have this security thing installed on my computer called McAfee, which would occasionally change my default search engine to Yahoo. Usually when this happened, I would just go into settings and change it back to Google, but it's no longer an option. I've uninstalled McAfee and tried uninstalling and reinstalling chrome, but still nothing.
