Cuil (/ ˈ k uː l / KOOL) was a search engine that organized web pages by content and displayed relatively long entries along with thumbnail pictures for many results. Cuil said it had a larger index than any other search engine, with about 120 billion web pages. It went live on July 28, 2008.

Cuil was originally a search engine (the name was pronounced "cool") that wasn't very good. There was a reddit post 11 years ago commenting on the fact that reddit's thumbnail image didn't match the linked article, and someone suggested that reddit's image selection was just as (in)effective as the Cuil search engine.
According to Cuil founders, this search engine searches more pages on the Web than any other search engine, including Google, and rather than using popularity as a search measurement, Cuil searches for and ranks pages based on their content and relevance.
