Create a chromium directory for the checkout and change to it (you can call this whatever you like and put it wherever you like, as long as the full path has no spaces): $ mkdir chromium && cd chromium. Run the fetch tool from depot_tools to check out the code and its dependencies. $ fetch chromium.
Chromium requires Visual Studio 2022 (>=17.0.0) to build. Visual Studio can also be used to debug Chromium. The clang-cl compiler is used but Visual Studio's header files, libraries, and some tools are required. Visual Studio Community Edition should work if its license is appropriate for you.

Combine this with a quick check of which version_number you need at omahaproxy, and you get a nice direct link to your desired "stable release" without accessing the slow snapshot lister website.
