Anything more than that is a violation. 12-2 requires 6.75 cu" capacity, so technically you can not have 12-2 in a pancake box. Just because you have never been called on it it does not mean it is code compliant.
16 nov. 2009 · I have a couple of options including running individual 14-2 from the sconce locations where i can drill 4" holes and feed the lights from those locations or put a junction box under the house and go from there.
13 ian. 2018 · I too hate pancake boxes but sometimes you have to put a box right on a stud or joist, like sconce lights in bathrooms. If possible, i'll use something like an arlington box that has box capacity on the side of the lumber
