The significant figures calculator undertakes calculations with significant figures and works out how many significant figures (sig figs), i.e., digits, a number holds. Simply input a number or mathematical expression, then click the "Calculate" button for the answer.
This calculator rounds the given number to the necessary quantity of significant figures, replacing the “leftover numbers” with zeros. For example, rounding 11 to one significant figure will give 10 as an answer.
Significant figures (sig figs for short) are the meaningful digits in a number. Often, leading zeroes or trailing zeroes can be removed and the number remains just as accurate (004 means the same as 4, for example). When removing digits, you must be able to identify the significant figures in order to retain the number’s accuracy.
